Hogan Says Budget Will Eliminate Deficit 

Governor Larry Hogan has unveiled what he calls a balanced budget that will eliminate the state's projected $ 750 million dollar structural deficit. The budget calls for a 2 percent funding reduction to state agencies, but there are no furloughs or layoffs of state workers. Hogan also says the spending plan includes record spending on K-12 education in Maryland, but no new taxes. He promises to outline proposed tax cuts in the coming weeks.

Hogan Inaugurated Governor of Maryland

Today's snowy forecast did not disrupt inauguration events for Larry Hogan, who took the oath of office today to become the 62nd governor of Maryland. Hogan is the second Republican chief executive of the state in the last 12 years, and in his inaugural address promised “a new spirit of bipartisan cooperation in Annapolis.”

Marylanders Guests of First Lady at SOTU

Freed Cuban prisoner Alan Gross and Maryland state Senator Catherine Pugh will be among the honored guests at tonight's State of the Union Address. Both will sit with First Lady Michelle Obama. Gross was released last month after five years of captivity in Cuba. Pugh is Maryland's new state Senate majority leader and president-elect of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators.

President Obama is expected to address Senate Democrats today in Baltimore. The lawmakers are meeting in Charm City to discuss strategy and messaging for the year ahead. Officials say the meeting is focused on the economy and how Democrats will approach their new role as the minority following the November elections.
