Maryland Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford got a first hand look Monday at the damage done by a tornado on Kent Island.
Rutherford was on the ground and also took a flight to get an aerial view of the destruction, which happened mostly in the Bay City area of the island.
“We are very fortunate,” said Rutherford. “Fortunate [because] this is probably one of the more densely populated areas of Kent Island---and that we didn’t have more injuries and definitely not fatalities.”
The National Weather Service confirmed it was an EF-2 tornado that struck the area overnight Sunday into Monday morning, injuring one person. Rutherford thanked first responders at the scene and said he expects damage claims to start pouring in.
