Community Care Monthly Award goes to The Stroke Association.org

In honor of May being American Stroke Awareness Month, WEAA gives the Community Care Monthly Award to the American Stroke Association. Stroke Ambassadors Michelle Greer and her son Shane Greer are survivors of stroke. Since their past experience, mother and son made it a priority to educate all aspects of stroke and encourage others to use “The Power to End Stroke.” Shane Greer began a program called “The New Face of Stroke” which informs children and young adults that stroke doesn’t only affect the elderly citizens but can happen to any age group. According to Annette Fisher from The American Stroke Association, the easiest way to spot a stroke is “F.A.S.T”. signs, which are: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty and Time to call 9-1-1. There is also stroke by the number that gives percentages of what stage the stroke is at and what actions should be applied. It’s imperative to know how to recognize stroke in order to prevent, treat and beat.
