Three Students Stabbed on Morgan's Campus

Jazmine Hawes

Three Morgan State University football players were stabbed behind Rawlings Dining Hall on the school’s campus on Tuesday around 2:00 p.m. The athletes were said to have been in a dispute with at least two other unnamed students, including one female.

Morgan spokesman Clint Coleman said several students, including the female and a few witnesses, were taken into custody. Two of the victims suffered injuries and were transported by ambulance to area hospitals. Their wounds were not believed to be life-threatening, however one student was listed in critical but stable condition. The third student was treated at the scene.

Most of the campus was blocked off as police continued to investigate the situation.

Morgan President David Wilson released a memo to university students and staff shortly after the incident, stating that the behavior will not be tolerated.

This is the second stabbing on Morgan’s campus within the span of a week following a dispute in Rawlings Hall dispute between a student and his suite mate. That dispute ended with one student stabbing the other with a pair of scissors.

Wilson will be speaking on the incidents at 6 p.m. this evening in the University Student Center theater. He also announced plans to visit residential halls in the coming days to speak with students.

WEAA will provide more information as the story develops.
