Inside a twitter storm Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump announced that Americans who happen to be Transgender, will be banned from U.S. military service.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”
In reaction to the announcement, Maryland Senator Ben Cardin said the Trump administration is "sanctioning discrimination" by banning transgender persons from military service. The Maryland Democrat called it "disappointing." Cardin argued that the U.S. is "not safer when we sanction discrimination." He called the decision political and wrong.
