News Wrap: Winter Storm Forecast; Shooting Suspect in Custody

Winter Storm Forecast

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 p.m. this evening to 7 p.m. Thursday. A wintry mix is in the forecast for this evening, then snow, heavy at times. Accumulations of 6-to-10 inches are expected, along with a trace of ice. Rain changes to a wintry mix this evening, then all snow overnight through Thursday. The heaviest will be late tonight through mid-day Thursday. Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 30s then dropping to the mid-20s, with winds gusting up to 20 mph. Roads will be snow-covered, with visibility reduced to 1/4 mile. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

Baltimore County Cuts “Rain Tax”

The Baltimore County Council has approved a cut in the so-called “rain tax.” After rejecting a proposal to reduce it to one penny per year, the smaller fees mean that the county will collect about $8 million less each year, but there’s still enough money to meet clean-up obligations.

Police Question Suspect In Five Shootings 

Police are questioning a Beltsville man linked to five recent shootings in the Baltimore and DC areas. Investigators say 35-year-old Hong Young is a former state correctional officer who has fired shots during the past eight days near Arundel Mills Mall, a Laurel Walmart, the Mall in Columbia, along the ICC and at an NSA building in Fort Meade. Young is charged with attempted murder and other offenses, but police don't think he committed acts of terrorism. 

Dan Bongino Launches PAC 

Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino appears to be laying the groundwork for another possible run at political office. Bongino announced today the formation of the "Battle Ground Resistance" political action committee. After Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski said she would retire when her fifth term is up next year, the Republican Bongino said he would consider a number of factors before deciding about any future run for elected office. 

Deadly Shooting in North Baltimore

City police are investigating a deadly shooting in North Baltimore in the 700 block of Richwood Ave. Officers were called to the area Tuesday evening where they found a man who had been shot in the head. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he died. The man's name has not been released and there's no word yet on a suspect. 

Skating Rink to Become Trampoline Park

The former Skateland roller rink in Towson is set to become a trampoline park. According to the Baltimore Business Journal Rockin' Jump, the Ultimate Trampoline Park will occupy part of the building on Orchard Tree Lane that Merritt Properties acquired in 2012. The building is next to Merritt's Towson Business Center and the Merritt Athletic Club.
