“Public Enemy Number One” Found Guilty In Murders
The man dubbed "Public Enemy Number One" is guilty of two counts of second-degree murder, six counts of attempted second-degree murder, and eight handgun counts. A jury last night convicted Darryl Anderson for his role in the murders of two women in East Baltimore two years ago. Baltimore police made Anderson Public Enemy Number One following the triple shooting and he was arrested 20 days later in Alabama. Anderson is facing life plus 400 years when he's sentenced in March.
Funeral Today For Boy Who Died In Pond Accident
Friends and family are saying their final goodbyes today to the boy who died last week after falling through the ice at a Lansdowne pond. Thirteen-year-old Kyron Aikens was memorialized at Cherry Hill Community Presbyterian Church this morning. Three other boys playing with Kyron also fell through the ice. Two have fully recovered, while the other is improving at the hospital.
Union Organizer Dies in Accident
A 55-year-old man struck yesterday while crossing Belair Road was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries. Baltimore Police said the accident happened just before 7 p.m. when a Toyota Camry hit the pedestrian in the southbound lane. The victim’s name was not immediately confirmed by police officials. Sources, however, have informed WEAA that the man who was struck was long-time SEIU 1199 organizer Charles Hall.
Frederick School Troubles
A 16-year student at Tuscarora High School in Frederick was arrested and charged with assaulting a teacher yesterday afternoon. The teacher suffered a possible concussion, a chipped tooth, and required stitches. This comes just after a double shooting outside Frederick High School on Wednesday evening during a JV basketball game against rival Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. That incident is now being reported as gang-related. There have been no arrests yet.
Deadly Blaze in Overlea
Fire investigators in Baltimore County are looking into the cause of a blaze that took down a single-family home last night in the 4500 block of Kenwood off Belair Rd. Inside, responders found a woman believed to be in her 70s dead on the third floor. Crews were still extinguishing hot spots well into this morning.
Former High School Standout Charged with Attempted Murder
A former Baltimore high school basketball star has been charged with attempted murder. Jason Sharp Jr. is accused of taking part in a robbery and shooting last month on E. Lombard St. Sharp played for Lake Clifton High School, and then joined the Baltimore Hawks in the American Basketball Association.
New State Caucus Formed
Six state lawmakers have formed the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus to lobby on behalf of the state’s Latino community. The group’s first priority is to look for ways to increase education funding. The Caucus, chaired by Del. Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk who represents Anne Arundel and Prince Georges Counties, is comprised of five state delegates and one state senator, all Democrats.
Cold Snap Continues
The day’s early freezing temperatures kept a Code Blue alert in effect for Baltimore. A series of storms are slated to bring more snow from the upper midwest through the northeast through the weekend. New England will get the worst of it, with anywhere from 6 inches to 2 feet forecast for the area.
