Security Expected To Be Tougher At Camden Yards
Fans planning to head to the Orioles home opener tomorrow will have a tougher time getting into Camden Yards due to much tougher security measures. Beginning this season, fans will be asked to remove their keys, mobile phones and cameras from their pockets, and then pass through metal detectors as they enter the ballpark. Gates will open two hours before the first pitch instead of 90 minutes, to help everyone get through the new security features. The Orioles will face the Toronto Blue Jays in a 3:05 p.m. game start.
Baltimore Teen Dies From Gunshot Wounds
A Baltimore boy is dead and a man is hospitalized following a shooting. Baltimore police found a 14-year-old boy and a 28-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds after responding to reports of shots fired in the 4100 block of Audrey Avenue last night. The two victims were taken to the hospital, but the young boy, identified as Tywaun Short, died from his wounds. The man remains in the hospital, and his condition is unknown. Police are still searching for the suspect in the shootings.
Bill Allowing Ex-Felons To Vote Advances In Annapolis
A bill allowing some ex-felons to vote right after their release from prison is advancing in Annapolis following House approval on Wednesday. The Senate passed its version of the bill last month and the differences must be worked out before it moves to the governor. Opponents of the bill say former felons should have to wait until they complete parole or probation before voting.
Final Approval Given To Bill Allowing New Transgender Birth Certificates
Final approval has been given to a measure in Annapolis that would allow transgender people to change the gender and name on their birth certificates. The law will allow transgender people to get a brand new birth certificate and the document will not be identified as amended. According to the Baltimore Sun the measure was approved in both chambers by veto-proof margins.
Lawmakers Give Final Approval To Whistle-Blower Measure
The General Assembly has given final approval to legislation that would reward some whistle-blowers. The Maryland False Claims Act was the top priority of state Attorney General Brian Frosh. Under the measure, whistle-blowers who report someone who defrauded state or local governments would receive a reward if the money is recovered. The bill also protects them from retaliation.
Maryland Lawmakers Want To Move Primary Date
Maryland lawmakers have voted to move the state's presidential primary contest back three weeks to April 26, 2016. Thursday's vote would result in shifting the election further away from the Easter holiday that year, which would have coincided with the first day of early voting. The change would also affect Baltimore City's municipal elections, and would move the primary from the same day as neighboring Washington, D.C. The primary shift is headed to Governor Larry Hogan for his signature.
Bands Compete For Chance To Perform At Artscape
More than two dozen musical acts will be competing over the next two days for a chance to perform at Artscape in July. The free Sound Off Live showcase at Metro Gallery on North Charles begins at 5 p.m. today and tomorrow and will feature 13 acts each day. The winners will be determined by a panel of judges. They'll find out the good news at a news conference June 8.
Three Million-Dollar Powerball Tickets Are Unclaimed
The Maryland Lottery says three, million-dollar Powerball tickets remain unclaimed. One ticket was purchased March 28 in Woodstock, another ticket was bought on February 25 in Columbia and the third ticket was bought on February 11 in Oakland. The million-dollar tickets matched all numbers except for the red Power Ball. Winners must collect their prizes within 182 days of the drawing.
