Message From The Dean

A Message to Listeners from the Dean

Today, WEAA FM 88.9 is bringing you public radio like you've never heard before!

Starting at 6am, you’ll wake up to the urban contemporary sounds of “Mornings with Mykel,” spend your lunchbreak listening to a mix of songs, story-telling and interviews with music makers on “Masterclass with Robert Shahid,” followed by neo soul music on Cool Vibes with Sandi Mallory, and mellow your evenings by getting “In the Groove” with the jazz offerings of Marcellus Shepard.

We're blending our new and legendary music shows with powerful talk programming -- with NPR's 1A, hosted by Joshua Johnson, Today with Dr. Kaye, hosted by Kaye Wise Whitehead, and For the Culture, hosted by Farajii Muhammad.

Celebrated syndicated programs, such as Democracy Now! and Latino USA remain on the air, at new times. And of course, the WEAA 88.9 News Center will continue to bring locally produced and national news from NPR.

And most important, he will have students involved in many aspects of our programming.

Why all the change?

We needed to creatively expand our audience appeal, while embedding students throughout the new programs to enhance WEAA’s role as a learning lab at Morgan State University.

The goal is to earn a larger audience and member-supported listener base by expanding our music and talk show offerings. In doing so, we hope to strengthen the station’s finances.

We hope you continue to support us with your time and your contributions.  We promise to do all we can to introduce a broader audience to WEAA 88.9 – and by so doing lay an ever greater claim to being “The Voice of the Community.”
