Center Stage Extends Run for "One Night in Miami"

Center Stage

Update: One Night in Miami has been extended a second time, to Sunday, February 22.

Citing popular demand, Center Stage has announced it will extend its run of One Night in Miami for another week.

The additional performances of the critically acclaimed show will be at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.

Written by Kemp Powers and directed by Center Stage Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah, One Night in Miami, features actors Sullivan Jones as boxing legend Cassius Clay as a soon-to-be Muhammad Ali, Grasan Kingsberry as singer Sam Cooke, Esau Pritchett as NFL star Jim Brown, and Tory Andrus as activist Malcolm X. Rounding out the cast are Nation of Islam bodyguards Kareem and Jamaal, played by Royce Johnson and Genesis Oliver, respectively.

The play is the imagining of what happened on the night these four iconic men and real-life friends celebrated Cassius’ 1964 heavyweight boxing title in the historic Hampton House hotel in the black section of Miami.

“I am so proud of this production, and thrilled with the response from audiences,” Kwei-Armah said. “People are responding to the powerful messages of these four iconic men. We’ve received many calls, emails and social media messages from people wanting to share this play with their friends and family. We’re glad to be able to give people one more weekend to experience One Night in Miami.”

WEAA is a media sponsor for the production.
